Islands of wax and communal weavings
(Co designed and facilitated with Cecily Loveys Jervoise) Chisenhale Studios Open day
Chisenhale Gallery
May 2024
We spent a whole day casting wax spells with leaves onto sand. We added homemade wicks and made them into magical candles sculptures to be treasured, given to a friend or a loved one, or perhaps to be burnt on a bonfire in the fall. We also made two huge bamboo floor looms and invited children and families to join and experimentally weave together using reclaimed fabrics, ribbons and yarns. Some people really embodied the weaving and the looms, and spent quite a lot of time weaving from the inside!
It was a gorgeous day of sensory experimentation and free form playing, where more than 300 children and young people joined in.
